RE : PLATE
Graduation project
Have you ever considered how the food on your plate affects
global warming?
RE: PLATE is an interface-based campaign that challenges users to change their food consumption patterns and thus reduce the damages of global warming. By scanning food or takeaway invoices, the app will help you make small changes for the benefit of the planet.

The product
This app encourages individual users or teams to consume less of Earth's resources and as a result to accumulate coins in the virtual shop.
How does it work?
This challenge requires the users to scan their own or their family's food receipts (grocery or takeout). They will earn coins for the virtual shop if they reduce their footprint on Earth from food (consume less of Earth's resources).
Scan, Replace for greener food options, Earn coins
Users
Everyone who eats and cares for the earth.
Personas
Research
My research included a wide range of topics-
Develop a deeper understanding of climate change as it relates to food, its effects and the feelings it evokes
Who is the target audience for the user?
What type of product will users enjoy using and feel connected to?
Research methods include thinking maps, interviews, articles, group sessions, and mentoring sessions.

Challenges
The challenges were mostly on the UX part- from identifying the problem to simplifying the process to the user and what will motivate him to keep scanning his receipts.
At first, I found it difficult to give information about the footprint (consuming Earth’s resources by eating a different type of food) during the user flow- I tested a few options about how and when I would like to inform the users.
The design tone was also a big issue during the work- on one hand, how the visual language will be informative and, on the other hand, be also light, friendly and not threatening.
User journey
Insights
During the work, I broke the flow into steps that encourage the user every time, even if it’s a small step.
The key for the participants to continue the challenge is to encourage the user, even if in a modest manner.
The ability to empathize with the user via funny creatures gives a relaxed tone to the app even though it talks about a serious subject.
Additional Features
In addition, a few features were added for
a whole-experienced app.
Creating teams
Creating teams to set a specific challenge, and inviting friends to take part and earn coins.
Check It Out
Allows the user to scan food products while shopping and to find out their footprint info and substitute items.
This gives value to the app - it represents a real-time shopping solution.
